Night Raid, Mixed media, acrylic on galvanized steel, 2 panels, 179.07 x 118.11 cm
In my diptych painting “Night Raid”, I use an image of a U.S. night raid of an Afghani village. In the image we see three women sitting on the ground outside their home as U.S. Special Operations Forces are about to enter it. At the base of this image, I have illustrated the silhouettes of spectators who, like us, are watching the scene unfold. What we need to also observe are the ways in which technology is used in modern warfare – it has not increased the impartiality of intervention in conflicts, rather, it has intensified civilian casualties.
